Dry Hands

I have a very bad memory. I write everything down and I use technology to remind me of everything short of breathing. Many days I will find myself noticing my hands are dry. It is then I remember that I did not put lotion on my hands. I have lotion—lots of lotion. But it never ceases to amaze me how easy it is for me to neglect to put it on my hands.

I have a shelf full of Bibles, each a different type or a different translation. But they will not do anything for me unless I actually take one off the shelf and read it. Nor will it help much if I neglect to pray and seek the Lord’s will. It is so easy to neglect what Jesus gave us as a Comforter, as a Helper. It is so easy to neglect His Truth.

Today is a great day to start making a habit of connecting with your Lord and Savior. Did you know experts say it takes about ten days to make something a habit? As you continue to spend time with God, in His Word and in prayer, you will be more aware and responsive to His presence. Before you know it, you will spend more time acknowledging His presence and you will have a great relationship with your Father. I’m going to go put on some more lotion, as I am realizing I forgot once again. Then let us open up His Word and seek His face.

“Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” – Psalm 105:4 [NLT]

Check Your Connections

When I was trying to print up a lesson I created for Sunday School, I found myself having some difficulty. Sometimes my printer can be a bit temperamental and I have to do a system reboot. Three times I tried to print the lesson and nothing was working. I took a step back and realized that I missed something very important. I had put the printer cable into the wrong slot. It was a connection issue.

We can have this same issue with God if we aren’t actively engaged in a relationship with Him. If we neglect His Word and do not have an active prayer life, we are not properly connected to Him. If we ignore His Spirit and defy His commands, we are not properly connected to Him.

At times we have something in life not working properly. When it happens, take a step back and check your connection. Are you communing with God? Have you gone in another direction? In life, you will find yourself either moving closer to Christ or moving away from Christ. There is no standing still.

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” – 2 Corinthians 13:14 [NIV]

Settling Down With God: A Study of 1 Kings

Image This book is a 10 Session Bible Study book great for both individual study or group Bible study.

I just finished working on this new project, Settling Down With God: A Study of 1 Kings. Funny enough, when God gave me the title, I initially thought that He wanted me to write about coping with AdHd in a biblical manner, because AdHd is something that both my daughter and I have learned to deal with over the years. Nonetheless, I waited for His direction and later learned that I was way off course.

I was very excited to dig deeper into 1 Kings for this project, as it is always a book I enjoy reading. There is so much there; I am always amazed.

For my first three books, and my 4th book (the Daily Good complimentary 14-day Devotional), I actually used my own personal photography. Each of the photos on all four of those books were taken in Australia. I wanted to do things differently this time around. My daughter is quite the artist and I asked if she could design the book cover. She merely was told that it was a Bible study book on 1 Kings.

As my daughter completed the book cover, I was working on the text. When we both were finished, my daughter sat by my side and helped to edit the cover till it was as she thought best for her vision. She told me that the puzzle pieces were used on the cover because it represents how each one of us is a special piece, we each are different, but we belong to one body. Then she said at the same time, our lives are made up of different pieces. I was so impressed by what she has already learned so far, to see her vision brought to life, and to work with her on this project.
