Prayers and Tears

This has been a very hard year for me for so many reasons but I can stand here today and say that I know without a doubt that my prayers have been heard and my tears have been seen. God knows what I have gone through and what I will go through next. He knows what you are going through—the struggles, the trials, the triumphs. He knows all and sees all.

When times get rough, you are not alone. God has suffered. God has walked in your shoes. Yes, He has walked on the same road as you. He has been there and He shares in your pain. He hears your prayers, each one of them. You might not see the answer you want. You might think perhaps He has missed hearing one because the results aren’t what you imagined. He heard it all, even what you couldn’t say with your own mouth.

I cried many tears this year but each one He caught. Nothing slips by. What comfort it is to know that He has seen it all, that I wasn’t alone. May it comfort you just the same. You are not alone. You are not forgotten. He knows your pain. He’s with you each step of the way.

“Go back to Hezekiah and tell him, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your ancestor David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will add fifteen years to your life.’” – Isaiah 38:5 [NLT]

So Much Noise

When you read Ezra 3, you see the Israelite people rebuilding the Temple and praising the Lord. As they stood before this rebuilt structure, there were two sounds present- shouts of joy and the sound of weeping. Some were shouting and rejoicing while others were crying. Some were joyous because the structure, the Temple of the Lord, was finished. It symbolized God being with them. Others had tear-filled eyes, perhaps remembering what God had done for them in the past—remembering the Temple that was destroyed—remembering the former glory. Perhaps they were weeping at the second chance—the chance to once again have a Temple of the Lord.

Reading of these emotions and of this outpouring of noise as a result got me to consider how noisy we get today. Do we make noise? Do we get emotional? Are we passionate for Jesus? I do not often hear people shouting for joy for what the Lord has done. I also do not hear crying or see tears remembering what God has done for people- whether it is tears of joy or tears from a remembered journey. So many people are quiet today. People are quiet about what Jesus has done for them. People are quiet when there is so much to share—so much to rejoice about—so many tears of joy that could be flowing.

Today make some noise. These people made so much noise that they could be heard from far away. Has anyone heard you today? Has anyone heard what Jesus has done for you?

“No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away.” – Ezra 3:13 [NIV]
