Ready to Serve

God has placed a special calling on each of our lives. Peter spoke of the need to always be prepared to share the Message (1 Peter 3); however, we also need to be ready to serve in other ways. There are times when your life may seem like it is on course and suddenly something “pops up.”

Consider Mary, a young woman going about her normal day. Suddenly an angel of the Lord visits and tells her of an amazing plan that involves her in a very personal way. Life would immediately change. What was her response? “I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve.”

I think it is fair to assume that she was nervous and perhaps fearful but she trusted God. Today let us be prepared to serve. We might be led to give someone a bottle of water or we could be led to something that requires more sacrifice and dedication. Whatever it may be, may your answer be “I’m the Lords… ready to serve.”

“’And did you know that your cousin Elizabeth conceived a son, old as she is? Everyone called her barren, and here she is six months pregnant! Nothing, you see, is impossible with God.’

And Mary said,

Yes, I see it all now:
I’m the Lord’s maid, ready to serve.
Let it be with me
just as you say.

Then the angel left her.”

-Luke 1:36-38 [MSG]

Look After

If you are the older sibling, you might have heard the phrase “look after” your brother or sister. If you are in a management position, your job is to “look after” whatever you are managing, and this usually includes a group of people. When you have children, you “look after” them.

Looking after someone requires time and attention. Looking after someone at its best requires love and dedication. Looking after someone or something requires caring. Looking after someone requires being intentional and present.

The author of Hebrews wrote, “Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God.” He went on to mention bitterness that leads to trouble and corruption. We spend a lot of time looking after ourselves, looking after our families, looking after our co-workers—let us not forget to look after our brothers and sisters.

“Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” – Hebrews 12:15 [NLT]

Not Forgotten

On this day eighteen years ago, my grandfather passed away after battling Leukemia for over two years. He was such an amazing man; my words cannot do him honor. I thank God for the time I had with my grandpa, and I know one day I’ll see him again. After my grandpa passed, the family found he had kept a scrap of paper with Isaiah 41:10 scrawled on it inside his wallet. When I found out, it gave me some peace, and that verse has forever been a promise of God that I have returned to again and again. That verse is where FearNot Ministries originated. It is such a precious thing to know that God is always with you, always there to comfort you, to strengthen you, to guide you. We truly have nothing to fear if we have God.

This is a poem I wrote at age 15 for my grandfather which was published in a poetry compilation. I thought I’d share it today as it touches upon the fact that we don’t always show our love enough and we so often take this precious gift of life for granted. Love like Jesus.

I don’t know you.
I can’t remember.
Your short time,
Always a blur.
I met you briefly,
too young to care.
But now I miss you;
You’re up there.
I can’t see you.
You can’t talk to me.
Yet, I can speak to you.
All I do, you see.
I long for your hugs;
just one kiss.
Me, your sorrowful granddaughter,
The kisses I will always miss.
I can’t say I know you;
only that I care.
Just wanted to say “I love you.”
Hope you’re aware.
