Case Before the Lord

As I was reading about the daughters of Zelophehad the other day, a verse spoke volumes to me. It is a simple verse, one that does not need you to crack open a commentary or understand a great deal of the Bible to comprehend. Numbers 27:5 says, “Moses brought their case before the LORD.”

You see these daughters of Zelophehad approached Moses for an inheritance from their father. This man had no sons and he died, so they approach Moses and what does he do first? He approaches the Lord. This got me thinking about the different situations that I am faced with on a daily basis. Do I take them to the Lord or try to handle them on my own? Do I give them to God or ask friends or family for help?

Every day we have this great opportunity to bring before the Lord anything on our heart. He wants us to do this—to share with Him all that we consider important and all that we care about – our hopes, our dreams, our desires, our problems, our fears. He wants us to pour it all out to Him. And when we bring what is on our heart and lay it down at His feet, He wants us to let it go and to trust Him, and to listen to the still small voice. It is a voice of comfort, a voice of wisdom, a voice that speaks life, a voice that placed the stars in the sky; it is a voice that wants to speak to you. It is the greatest voice—and it’s worth a listen.

Super Moon

It was so awesome to take the kids outside and glance up at the incredible Super Moon. How could one not look up at that amazing sight and not feel God’s presence among us? As I grew up, I spent a lot of time paying careful attention to things—to nature, to the stars, to the complexity of the human body, to how things work and how things grow. We think of things in a simple manner because we see things so often, but if we would consider things as if we only first laid eyes upon them, we would be in continuous awe. Even our own eyes are phenomenal. God is so awesome.

So we can feel God’s presence when we look at nature, but we can know He is present in other ways as well. Prayer is a way I feel God’s continual presence. Through Jesus alone we are able to approach the Father. He listens to each prayer. When I pray I feel a great peace and I know He is faithful and will always answer. You can feel God’s presence through people too. I’m blessed to have seen Jesus through many different people through the years. There’s other ways to feel God with you—signs, wonders, dreams, etc. The list goes on and on.

At the end of the day, there’s only a problem when we are blind to His presence. We can only be blind if we are too self absorbed and self centered and we miss it. You are able to close your eyes and miss Him but it doesn’t mean He is not there. He’s always there. I pray you never neglect the opportunity to live fully in the presence of God.

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” – Psalm 139:7 [NKJV]

“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” – Psalm 16:11 [NKJV]

Redesigned Reality

When I was a little girl, I had a crazy imagination and I had a lot of time to consider my future. I had a complete future dreamed up, with the number of kids, how my husband would be, the job I would have, etc. Some of what I imagined became reality and there was a point in life when I thought everything I had envisioned was right in my grasp; however, my fantasy world crumbled before my very eyes.

In today’s passage, Bildad asked Job if he wanted to have the world redesigned for him, to have reality suspended for him. It meant should that which is firm as a rock get removed as a special accommodation for Job so that he could have his own reality. Or one could say that which doesn’t fit or work into my plans be removed so I could have the reality I want.

Bildad understood that God designed the world and that was reality. God is Creator. God is King. Of course with his truth he was misdirected regarding Job; however, we also need to ask ourselves this same question. There are moments when the reality that is before us doesn’t fit our plan and we need to step back and realize that our plan and God’s plan aren’t totally aligned. Improper alignment causes us to desire a redesigned reality. Remember God’s plan is so much better than the one we could ever imagine.

“Bildad from Shuhah chimed in:

‘How monotonous these word games are getting!
Get serious! We need to get down to business.
Why do you treat your friends like slow-witted animals?
You look down on us as if we don’t know anything.
Why are you working yourself up like this?
Do you want the world redesigned to suit you?
Should reality be suspended to accommodate you?’”

-Job 18:4 [MSG]

Thinking of You

Many people have bouts with insomnia; I feel like I could be deemed an expert from my experience. My record of sleepless nights is days long. Some people cannot sleep because of pain and illness. Some people cannot sleep because their neighborhood is noisy. Some people cannot sleep because the environment is uncomfortable. Some people cannot sleep because their mind doesn’t stop going.

I know many people who spend the night awake and thinking. Thinking of how badly they messed up during the day. Thinking of what they can do tomorrow. Thinking about someone special to them. Thinking of finances. Thinking of their kids. Thinking about house or car repairs. Thinking about how their life could be better. Thinking. Thinking. David wrote, “I lie awaking thinking of You.” He was awake thinking of God.

Today I want you to consider the last time you were thinking of God. Have you spent time just thinking about Him? Just meditating on His Word? Do you think about Him at night? When we spend our nights awake thinking about people, about bills, about struggles, about pain, about work, about failures, about dreams, we could be spending our time thinking about Him—is He not a part of our daily life? Does He not have a perfect plan? Look to Him. Think of Him.

“I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” – Psalm 63:6 [NLT]
