Serve Enthusiastically

Growing up, I was taught the value of hard work. I am very grateful that my parents instilled this into me, and I hope that my children learn this as well. In Romans 12:11, we read, “Never be lazy, but work hard.” The verse continues to say, “Serve the Lord enthusiastically.” Wow! This is more than simply getting the job done.

Serve the Lord enthusiastically. Cheerfully. There should be excitement, enthusiasm, and eagerness. ENERGY. Energy people around you can feel. This enthusiasm is contagious. This enthusiasm points to our Father, the One we are serving.

This enthusiasm is in high demand; it’s hard to find.  It’s something special that is not on display everywhere you turn. Too many people get caught going through the motions. Friends, don’t get in a routine. Don’t lose your joy for service. Ask Him where He wants you to serve. Pour yourself into it. Remember that you are not alone. If you are doing what you were designed to do, the enthusiasm will be there. Keep walking in faithful obedience and as you grow where you are positioned, your excitement will be contagious.

Hayride Excitement

As I was walking the dogs tonight, I saw something you do not see every day. It was the first time I saw this in my neighborhood. There was a hayride going down my road. It was bizarre. I never saw something like that in my area. But one group road by, and then another passed by thereafter. It was adorable seeing the kids waving.

The kids on the hayride were waving at the dogs. The dogs could care less. I told Max to look at the kids; however, he was busy doing his own thing. Marci was looking in an all-together different direction. The kids kept waving and waving, and only I was excited. Only I waved back.

So often in life, we get excited and we wave to others for attention. As we do, our waves are not returned. It is because we are waving at those who aren’t interested or do not care. We waste our “waves” on those who couldn’t be bothered. Even so, we have a God we could wave at any time and He would pay attention. He already is watching. Why do we wave when we need help, when we have a prayer request, when we are hurting, but we do not wave when we are having a good time? We share our troubles, but we don’t share during the blessed days.

Who are you waving at today? Are you trying to get attention from someone who doesn’t pay you any mind? Why not fix your eyes on your Creator? Did you know He’s your number one fan? He’s reaching for you. Reach back.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” – Jeremiah 31:3b [NIV]

Tossing Pennies

A customer who I see quite often told me of something she enjoys doing whenever she sees little kids nearby while shopping. She said if she spots some little children lurking around, she takes some pennies from her wallet and walks near them and drops them on the floor for the children. She said her reward is watching the children with smiles on their faces gathering the pennies. With such a small gesture, she brings joy to so many children.

The lady does something so simple, yet so intentional. She doesn’t have much but she has constructed a way to use what she has to bring joy to others. That is what we all can do—use what God has given us to love and serve others.

Remember that you reap what you sow.

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” – Galatians 6:7 [ESV]
