Tag Archives: God answers prayer
As soon as I pray, God answers. As soon as you pray, God answers. The Psalmist wrote about a response of encouragement and strength, but this isn’t the only answer from God. We can rest assured that as soon as we pray, God answers in whatever way He desires.
When you pray, remember that you are speaking with God. You are speaking to God. Sometimes because we are talking to One we cannot see, we do not communicate effectively. We come up short. We may not ask for what is truly on our hearts because we are trying to speak the perfect prayer. Or maybe we spend so much time praying for others because we want to be humble, that we never connect with God one-on-one.
Today, spend time in prayer with your loving Father. Remember that the moment you speak to Him, He answers you. He adores when you come to Him in prayer, especially when you are sharing what is on your heart. Every single prayer He hears. Every single prayer He answers. You may not understand how He answers or why the answer is not what you expected. Spend time getting to know God, and you’ll find that prayer is all about knowing God more and growing closer to Him.
“As soon as I pray, You answer me; You encourage me by giving me strength.” – Psalm 138:3 [NLT]
Yesterday I knew that it would be difficult to share something while giving the message God wanted me to share. Though I can think back on things and feel at peace and praise God through it all, there are moments when the tears still come. When I remember something, I remember it as if it is fresh in my mind, happening right this very moment. The tears may pour and I’ll remind myself time has passed, God is good and I trust in Him.
Nonetheless, I did not want to start tearing up to the point of not being able to speak. I did not want to become a bawl baby and not be able to share the message God gave to me for the night. I prayed for days for the tears to be controlled, for strength, for the right timing, for peace. Not only did I get those things—but I also got spilled coffee.
I have AdHd. I am not one to scan around the room too much with my eyes because I notice things and my mind wanders. Right before I was about to speak about what would be difficult, I noticed a dear brother in Christ in the front row spilled his coffee. Jokingly I said, “You just spilled coffee. Now I’m going to cry.” But it was that humor and that light moment that helped me to press forward through what was to be shared. Prayers get answered, sometimes in ways you would not imagine. James wrote, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (5:16 NIV). Today, don’t forget to pray. Don’t forget to ask God, to go before Him with everything that is on your heart. He cares. He loves you. Just pour your heart out to Him.
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18 [NIV]
It was early morning and I had broken sleep. I had not had my morning cup of coffee and I was walking not one, but two dogs, as Max was joined with his pal Marci. I felt like I was sleepwalking through the first half mile. I looked forward and saw a man in the distance sitting on a lawn chair. He looked jaundice. I immediately began to pray for him. As I got closer I realized he was just bald and he was wearing a yellow shirt. It was highly unlikely that he had jaundice. Then I said, “Lord, you’re probably laughing at me. I know I would.”
It was a good morning laugh. I was so quick to pray for the man and it was for something not relevant; however, I’m sure that God answered my prayer. The point that I want to highlight is the fact that I instantly prayed for the person. I don’t always do that but it is the best thing to do when we know of someone who is in need of prayer. When someone asks you to pray for them, do it right away. It does not matter where you are at or who you are around or what you are doing.
Prayer lists are great. I have one. Having a set time of the day when you connect with God in prayer is great as well. But there should always be this open door policy throughout your day where there’s no list, there’s no set time, there’s just you and God. When you are driving in your car and you see someone in need of prayer, pray for them. When you are on your work break and just saw someone post something on Facebook that shows a need, pray for them. Right then and there. Sometimes we put the list together and lose it. Sometimes we plan to take that list to our bedroom and pray before bed but we fall asleep with only good intentions that failed. You will feel better if you pray right away and at the same time, you will know that you took it to God first. It is always best in His hands.
“I love the LORD because he hears and answers my prayers. Because he bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath!” – Psalm 116:1-2 [NLT]
