Life is uncertain. It seems that at the moment you think you have everything together, something else is just around the corner to show you otherwise. You may plan for a “good day” but other things come up. You may think work is going well, your relationships are solid, finances are good, and one thing happens to change your situation. Life is comprised of seasons. Every day brings changes. Some you celebrate; some you grieve. Thankfully all is in God’s hands.
He is a forever firm fortress. May you declare Him your forever firm fortress. While the world is spinning out of control, while people come and go, while nothing seems solid, we can rest in knowing that He is a bedrock. He is a firm fortress. He is a mountain, a pathway, a tower. No matter what comes your way, when you are in His hands, you are safe and secure. In His hands, in His refuge, He is your secret strength and your shield.
No matter what comes your way today, remember that God, the Creator of all, the Maker of heaven and earth, is the champion of your cause. He is your forever firm fortress. There is no better place to be than in His embrace.
“You’re as real to me as bedrock beneath my feet, like a castle on a cliff, my forever firm fortress, my mountain of hiding, my pathway of escape, my tower of rescue where none can reach me. My secret strength and shield around me, you are salvation’s ray of brightness shining on the hillside, always the champion of my cause.” – Psalm 18:2 [TPT]
I have an everyday, ordinary life. I wake up to a morning walk and coffee. I head out to work. I get home and do normal stuff. I hang out with the kids. We watch movies, play games, go the park, talk, etc. I go shopping (though I am not a fan of shopping). I run errands. I read. I sleep. I eat. Romans says to “take your everyday, ordinary life… and place it before God as an offering.”
There was a time when I thought my life was so ordinary that there would be no reason God would want it as an offering. What did I do? Today I think differently. With humility, I can see that my life is valuable. It is important. It can be an offering placed before God. Yes, God wants you to offer your life to Him. He wants it all!
Never think your life is meaningless. Never think that you are too ordinary, too mediocre, too unqualified. God wants your everyday, ordinary life. Embrace Him. Fix your attention on Him and watch what He does to your life. You will still have the everyday, ordinary life, but great things will come from it. “You’ll be changed from the inside out,” and it is true—“God brings the best out of you.” Nothing is left ordinary in God’s hands. He made you for something great. Don’t hold back anymore.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” – Romans 12:1-2 [MSG]
There are people all over the world who need help. There are people right in front of you that need help. Proverbs tells us that we should “never walk away from someone who deserves help.” If there is a person before you, “your hand is God’s hand for that person.”
Do you consider yourself the hands and feet of Christ? We each are called to serve, to love, to help those in need. “Don’t tell your neighbor ‘maybe some other time.’” If the “money’s right there in your pocket” it should be so easy to pull it out and bless that person. That is why God put it there in the first place. You have been blessed to be a blessing.
Each day I see people in great need and I see those who could help. Sadly many of those moments end with the needy person walking away without assistance. God places many people before us each day, many people we can touch with His hands. We can show love—it requires action, it requires being intentional, it requires compassion. Get your God’s hands ready. It’s time to help someone.
“Never walk away from someone who deserves help;
your hand is God’s hand for that person.
Don’t tell your neighbor ‘Maybe some other time’
or ‘Try me tomorrow’
when the money’s right there in your pocket.
Don’t figure ways of taking advantage of your neighbor
when he’s sitting there trusting and unsuspecting.”
-Proverbs 3:27-29 [MSG]
