“Direct my footsteps according to your word, let no sin rule over me.” – Psalm 119:133 [NIV]
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 [NIV]
I never thought I would say this, but I have written three books. I cannot say that it was something that I did alone. Each of the books shares many God stories, and the books themselves were all written for God and His Kingdom. I recently started researching for a fourth book and I realized something that I never really thought—each book had a title before one word was written for the book. Before I wrote The Twelve Fingerprints, I was given the title and from that, I understood the basic outline to start my book. Before I set out on my journey to Australia, I understood that there would be a book to write about the trip and I was again given the title. Oddly enough, the adventure itself was not what the story was about, but something very different. Sometimes we are given a small piece of information, but it’s not what we think at all. I did not get the realization until I found myself face-to-face with a different reality than I imagined. I thought the journey would bring me somewhere better than I was before, but the idea I had was not what God had planned. We have a very different definition of “better.”
We do not think like God thinks, because we view things from our own human vantage point and we usually tend to think about what would be good for us by our own idea of good. For example, it would be good if all the bills got paid and we had some money left over. This isn’t something bad, but at times there is something else that God is working on in our lives. We are to walk in faith and trust in Him. These titles I was given before I started to write, but the book itself took time and there were many twists and turns in the writing process. This is the same for our own lives. We aren’t given all the answers. We are given a little piece to work with and we are to walk in faith. We are not going to know everything here on earth. We might have to be more patient than we like. We have to trust and obey. As you trust, you find that God will reveal Himself to you in a way you couldn’t imagine. I still don’t have all the answers, but I am blessed because of His revelation, because of the relationship I have with Him.
We too each receive titles if we accept Jesus into our lives, being then called “Children of God.” As a believer, your life should start with this title (imagine the book title)—Child of God or as Matthew West put it so well, “Child of the One True King.” Start with that for the title of your life book, and allow God to give you the body of the book with His timing. Allow Him to guide your steps.
