  2. Love is Kind… do GOOD & be GENEROUS to all

“Love Always”… used to use this as my signature for cards and letters

Realized that I do not “Love Always.”

Always means ALL THE TIME

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:7 Living Bible (TLB)

If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.

1 Corinthians 13:7 GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)

Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up.

1 Corinthians 13:7 The Passion Translation (TPT)

Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up.

Love BEARS all things – Love BEARS always

YOU WILL BE LOYAL TO HIM NO MATTER WHAT THE COST

YOU WILL NEVER STOP BEING PATIENT

LOVE COVERS… PROTECTS

1 Peter 4:8 (NASB)

Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

Charles Spurgeon noted that… “This love both covers and bears all things. It never proclaims the errors of others. It refuses to see faults unless it may kindly help in their removal. It stands in the presence of a fault with a finger on its lips.”

Love BELIEVES all things – Love BELIEVES always

YOU WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE IN HIM

Expect the best of others (of what’s in them now)

You recognize they are made in the image of God — you see the very best in them now

You believe in someone until you are shown otherwise – give benefit of the doubt

Romans 12:10 English Standard Version (ESV)

10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Faith in what God has made available now

Love HOPES all things – Love HOPES always

YOU WILL ALWAYS EXPECT THE BEST OF HIM

Expect the best of others (of what is to come)

You recognize that God has a greater purpose in a person’s life, a plan & purpose of His design — you see what God wants to do in a person’s life.

Love looks forward with confidence & grace

Trust that expects fulfillment of the future promises of God

1 Timothy 4:10 English Standard Version (ESV)

10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

Romans 8:24 The Passion Translation (TPT)

24 For this is the hope of our salvation.

But hope means that we must trust and wait for what is still unseen. For why would we need to hope for something we already have?

Love ENDURES all things – Love ENDURES always

YOU WILL ALWAYS STAND YOUR GROUND IN DEFENDING HIM

YOU WILL NEVER GIVES UP

To endure – To remain under

Perseveres despite situations / circumstances

No matter what!

1 Corinthians 9:12 (NASB)

12 If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.

In Closing, look to God to understand what it means to LOVE ALWAYS…

Love Bears… God bears… He pours out grace & mercy despite your sins and shortcomings. Your sins cannot stand up to His grace.

Love Believes… God believes the best in you – God designed you for His good purpose & God sees you as His Son.

Love Hopes… God has your future beautifully orchestrated & God sees who you will be – the beautiful masterpiece

Love Endures… God loves NO MATTER WHAT… He truly LOVES ALWAYS!

BE PATIENT WITH ALL

Colossians 3:12-13 (ESV)

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 (AMP)

14 We [earnestly] urge you, believers, admonish those who are out of line [the undisciplined, the unruly, the disorderly], encourage the timid [who lack spiritual courage], help the [spiritually] weak, be very patient with everyone [always controlling your temper].

1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 (MSG)

13-15 Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.

32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

LOVE CONCEALS AN OFFENSE

Whoever covers an offense seeks love,

but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.

Proverbs 17:9 Amplified Bible (AMP)

He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, But he who repeats or gossips about a matter separates intimate friends.

Loved First

There are different types of love. Phileo is often looked at as brotherly love. Eros is the sexual kind of love. Agape is the highest form of love, an unconditional love; this is the love that God has for us.

Many of us have a broken understanding of love. Our definition of love has been corrupted by abuse and worldly definitions. Maybe too many Hallmark and Lifetime movies have caused us to cross the line. The truth is we cannot truly love others, until we first grasp the love of God. When we begin to understand His love, and we walk with Him, we begin to grow in love and overflow in love. We then “love each other because He loved us first.”

Today, embrace the love of God. God loves you so much that He sent His one and only Son to pay for your sins so that if you believe in Him, you are given the free gift of eternal life. He loves you so much, He continues to reach out to you. He desires a relationship with you. It is by His example and through the Spirit that we can love others. We love each other because He loved us first.

“We love each other because He loved us first.” -1 John 4:19 [NLT]

The Lifesaver

This past week was a difficult one for me. My routine was missing in action. Sleep escaped me. My level of pain was at its highest. We were relocating. I was working every day, all day. It was draining.

I was standing at work in pain, tired and dreading the end of my shift when I would return home to move more stuff to the new place. I asked a friend if she had some hard candy like a Lifesaver, because my throat was dry. Little did I know, a customer was listening to the conversation. As I finished with his order, he handed me the Lifesavers. I argued that it was against policy to accept things from customers. He then said he would leave them sit for me, that it was his policy to be nice. Jokingly, the lady behind him said she liked Three Musketeers. I was amazed as I spied him picking up yet another small gift to bring another smile around.

My day was not going well. I was exhausted and found myself on the verge of tears, nearly falling asleep standing, and wearing more braces than ever before because my body was feeling the week’s work. Then here came this fellow who became a lifesaver for a moment. His attitude and generosity had a great impact on me and the other customer. One small gesture had a ripple effect. It was a great reminder of our great Lifesaver. The gentleman paid attention to those around him and took action. It did not cost him a lot of money. It did not cost him a lot of time. This reminds me of something Mother Teresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

“My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.” – 1 John 4:7 [MSG]
